Reclining Self-Portrait is part of my long running series of self-portraits. After an 8-foot painting I completed at the end of April 2023, this painting starts a period of my work focusing on what can be done on a smaller, more sustainable scale. At 30 inches long, this size allowed me to add enough detail to be naturalistic while still completing the project in a reasonable timespan. The work utilizes very thick oil paint without medium to emphasize a tight painting style with stark contour lines. The pose resembles Titian’s Venus of Urbino as way celebrate my lifelong commitment to this creative practice, just Titian’s work celebrates the lifelong commitment of a marriage. The hand appears placed inside the shirt to indicate a sense of duty or leadership such as in 17th and 18th century portraiture.
-4×6 Inch Inkjet Print: Printed on Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy with Epson Claria Ink. Under ideal conditions, the colors will not fade for 25-30 years. This print is signed and titled by the artist on the back, then shipped in a stamped envelope through USPS.
