About the Artwork:
Satyr Rampage features the titular mythological creatures as they pursue drink as a gift for Dionysus, the greek god of wine, featured in the background. The satyrs hold theater masks as a way to hide their identities during their strike. The masks bilaterally serve as self-portraits for the artist and a nod to the Statue of a Young Satyr Wearing a Theater Mask of Silenos, a 1st century Romans statuette located at the Art Institute Chicago. A sense of chaos is implemented through the dense composition and surreal collage technique - offering a unique take on a classical reference.

About the Artwork:
This work uses a siren from the Greek epic The Odyssey as well as classical pottery as inspiration. Media today often depicts sirens as beautiful mermaids singing in the ocean. Antiquity presents, in contrast, birds with female heads - an avine centaur of sorts. Here I test out a less-romanticized version of the creature using the unnerving capabilities of collage.

About the Artwork:
I was driving home from a date one day when I had the idea for a centaur with hands for hooves. Within three days I had this collage finished on Photoshop, and in one more day I had my final print. There’s an excitement to having a new idea and testing it out with a sense of urgency.

About the Artwork:
Nibbling plays with the possibility of monstrosity available through digital collage. Pictured is a figure made primarily of art historical references ranging from Dürer to Rubens. The creature with three mouths, three noses, and four eyes gnaws at an arm. The sources appear simplified due to the thick single layer of oil paint. Much like Hannah Höch's Dada collages, the painting innovates by taking images and replacing their original contexts. My process continues to iterate on her techniques through the use of Photoshop.

About the Artwork:
Detachment symbolizes a period of renewal for both me and the sitter. This is a second iteration of the piece done as a digital collage rather then an oil painting. Both of us found ourselves at moments in our lives where what we wanted were put into question. Each eye/mouth combination represents past, present, and future when read left to right. In that case 'the past' is physically separated with a sword. The bright green fabric represents regrowth and is complimented with the red in the background.

This work titled Discobolus harkens back to the ancient statuary of the same name. The pose from the original figure comes to life through many cascading sources. This process constitutes a constant game of give and take as the images become stretched, twisted, flipped, covered, and replaced until a final form reveals itself. The background is also collaged to a lesser extent to allow the figure to pop, and a shadow added as connective tissue between the two.

About the Artwork:
Mars offers a masculine equivilant to female nudes such as the Venus of Urbino. As such, Titian’s red and green color palette sees a nod here. With a notable flexibility to the creative process, the two-headed figure came by chance. As the soldier takes a short rest and enjoys a glass of absinthe, he sits in some sort of parlor featuring a venus painting of his own with many breasts. They exist in some sort of alternative universe perhaps.

About the Artwork:
Hungry Flowers builds upon my screen print Flower (2023) by creating a scene in which a large mass of petaled creatures bite into a foot covering much of the picture plane. The process for this piece was as if a game of telephone. The original flower is pasted into the new photoshop file and altered until it becomes a new being. Then that process happens over and over until the composition is filled with unique concoctions. This way no idea in the studio needs to be permanently left behind. I can continually return to the same archetypes and try again instead of starting from scratch.

About the Artwork:
Sunburn features a personified sun shooting out UV rays through his eyes at a nearby sunbather. The original idea came from Sascha Schneider’s work Hypnosis (1904), where a beam of light shoots out from one figure’s eyes into another. Here, that idea takes a more gruesome route where the beam of light penetrates through the body onto the other side. Fire and smoke erupt as the lounger stands defenseless.

A derivative experiment focused on how well screen printing can deliver solid black coloring in a repeatable manner. Based on the face from my screen print titled Centaur (2023).

About the Artwork:
Flower is my second successful attempt at screen printing. What made me interested in art in the first place was always figuration, so oftentimes I find it more enjoyable to personify objects or animals in a composition to give a more dynamic take on things. The way I make faces comes from connecting many different original images together at important meeting points, such at eyelids, mouths, noses, or chins. Then I twist or push the remaining sections of a face to fit the mold of this new figure. Additionally, noses and eyes line the center face to act as seeds and petals. Human arms are then arranged to resemble stems, and leaves take the place of hands on either side.
