Detachment symbolizes a period of renewal for both me and the sitter. Both of us found ourselves at moments in our lives where what we wanted were put into question. Each eye/mouth combination represents past, present, and future when read left to right. In that case 'the past' is physically separated with a sword. The ‘past’ of this figure has its own separate body which wears a dingy brownish outfit compared to the more vibrant green wardrobe looking towards the future. The bright fabric on the right represents regrowth and is complimented with the red fabric in the background. Each section of the collaged fabric comes from different German and Italian Renaissance paintings available in the public domain.
